Welcome to the ALWAYS MIDDLES WEB PORTAL!

Our unique SURFACE TREATMENT SOLUTIONS are made through a process of exchange between DIGITAL AND PHYSICAL STATES. Currently on the floor we have a collection of surfaces made from the digital capture of a steel off-cut from Sliven, Bulgaria. Check out our Showroom in the Downloads.

At ALWAYS MIDDLES, we see material states and presences as layovers in a LONG TRIP without a clear departure and arrival place, an ALWAYS MIDDLE, never at the end of their LIFE, always ready to be taken up again to be REUSED and REINTERPRETED.

Through our Web Portal you can:
 download our samples,
see past shows,
and download our current real time showroom

We are gracious to our commisioning body, https://www.off-site.space/

The Always Middles Showroom is a downloadable game environment organized around a closed loop of spaces whose surfaces are wallpapered with digital-texturing methods. The different wallpapers are transformations of several images: various texture maps of a 3D scanned (photogrammetry) steel composite off-cut from a Bulgarian metal shop outside Sliven. The game environment serves as a Showroom that samples part of the artifact's ongoing transformation while simultaneously participating in the digital extension of this process. The samples are made available for visitors to download and reuse at the Always Middles Webportal.

The condition of the Always Middle is a lens for considering the lifecycle, extraction, movement, transmutation and exchanges of materials between physical and digital states. Material states and presences are layovers in a long trip without a clear departure and arrival place, an Always Middle. The steel off-cut is a composite of various elements with iron; it has always changed and been reconfigured, while leaving residue along the way. It is becoming; its constituent elements have moved into a temporary configuration. It arrived in my mailbox, too. The textures extracted in the digital scanning process are similarly a residue in a middle-state, ready to travel to other places and have new encounters.
